About Me

I am an Accredited Genealogist® in the United States Southwest region, specializing in United States research, with particular expertise in African American genealogy, DNA analysis, and Southwestern U.S. research. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Family History & Genealogy from Brigham Young University and have over a decade of research experience helping individuals and families uncover their stories.

My professional work combines rigorous methodology, original record analysis, and clear documentation, ensuring that every conclusion is supported by evidence and aligned with genealogical standards. I am especially skilled in navigating record loss, complex family structures, and historically marginalized communities, using a combination of traditional records, genetic genealogy, and creative problem-solving.

In addition to client research, I am actively involved in the genealogy community. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), have presented at RootsTech (2021–2025) and national genealogy conferences, and regularly collaborate on educational and preservation-focused projects.

Whether you are just beginning your family history journey or facing a long-standing research challenge, my goal is to provide accurate, ethical, and compassionate research—and to help you understand not just what the records say, but what they mean.

My Story

Genealogy became a part of my life starting with my grandfather. What began as a personal curiosity—asking questions about names, places, and family traditions—quickly grew into a passion for historical records and the stories they preserve.

As my skills developed, I realized that genealogy is not just about charts and documents; it is about people. It is about restoring identity, reconnecting families, and giving voice to those who were often overlooked or misrepresented in historical records. This realization led me to focus my work on African American research, DNA-based identification, and complex cases involving slavery, migration, and record gaps.

My academic and professional experiences—from working with federal archival records to assisting with repatriation and community-based history projects—have shaped the way I approach research today. I believe in combining technical excellence with empathy, recognizing that family history is deeply personal.

I founded The GenZ Genealogist to make professional genealogy more accessible, transparent, and engaging for a new generation—while still upholding the highest professional standards. I strive to bridge the gap between traditional genealogy and modern tools, helping clients not only discover their ancestors but feel confident in the research behind them.

Every family has a story worth telling. I would be honored to help uncover yours. Whether that be by engaging children and teenagers in your life, digging into records online or traveling across the country to pull records I am here to help!
